Men of Valour

Because when you are an Imperial Guard officer, it's the size of your mechanical appendage that counts.

This is my leading officer, Colonel Pain, showing off his stupidly huge Combi-melta that replaces his right arm. He's basically the new(er) Commissar Yarrick model, because every IG collector and their dog thinks that converting it into their leading officer is such a damn clever and original idea that no one else has thought of...until they look online and realise that it might be a tad more original to use a completely different figure altogether. Anyway, I've given the Colonel a moustache and goatee to complete the whole "eccentric British officer" look.

To his right is the older, more cooler Commissar Yarrick (sans flagpole - he draws enough fire as it is without carrying around a huge banner pole to let the enemy know where he's standing all the damn time). Unlike my other Commissars, he's wearing the standard black colour scheme endorsed by the Imperium for their Commissars since I figured that he's a really important character who wouldn't go out of his way to match uniforms with anyone (even if the Colonel is so eccentric that he's dressed not only his Ogryns and Ratlings in uniform, but he's swayed all his Commissars and even his stormtroopers into wearing the glorious red of "look at me I'm over here" Praetoria).

In the geeky world of "fluff" (backstory for the figures, for you non-tabletop wargamers out there), I always liked to think that Pain envied Yarrick to the point of bitter hatred, but that there was always some sort of secret hero worship going on at the same time. Hence, the stupidly oversized weapon.

The models were sculpted by members of Games Workshop, a branch of Citadel miniatures. The colours are also their brand.
